We are in the future now BOYZ.
The Samsung Gear VR is out to the general public running off of the latest Samsung smartphones (S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus, Note 5).
For those of you who have not tried VR yet, I’m sorry and will do my best to explain the initial feeling.
When you strap on the VR headset you become immersed in a totally foreign yet familiar world: A living room. Inside this room you can look down and see a hardwood floor, look up and see a ceiling, or look behind you and see a glass window looking out at mountains. In reality however you are in your normal living room.
Virtual Reality takes you into a new world and gives off a new feeling in media. When we typically watch a YouTube video on Lebron James training, we see him standing and shooting baskets yet we also see our own living room, carpet, pictures, candles, tv stands ect.
However, when in VR you look up and see a basketball hoop, you look behind you and see an exit to the gym, you look to your right or left and you see others training in the gym as well. You become immersed in a world that is not your own but that of the video you are watching.
VR is not the be all end all of entertainment, but I just got done watching an episode of Arrow under the hood (with the VR headset)—–(NO PUN INTENDED) and it was amazing. You completely get taken out of your element and inserted into a comfortable living room to watch netflix. As weird as it may seem, when we all finish work for a day and look to unwind sometimes you don’t want to be home. Now with VR you don’t have to be.
If you have used VR in the past you understand exactly where I’m coming from. If you haven’t…definitely give it a shot!
In my opinion Oculus costing $600 is a bit ridiculous (especially if you don’t own a high end PC). When others come to market for a price of $300-400 VR is totally worth it.
Let me know in the comments below what you think of VR!
